About a week prior, I decided I wanted to take a stab at winter hiking. I purchased some microspikes from Amazon and got a great deal on a Downtek jacket at EMS. I had been training for my upcoming Rim2Rim hike in the Grand Canyon with my Aunts so I figured it would be great to get some trail time in. I got to the Mount Major parking lot around 9:00am. There were a few other cars but I didn’t see anyone until I reached the summit. I took the Brook Trail which I had never hiked before(I’ve hiked Major many times). I had never hiked with spikes beforeĀ and it was such a cool feeling. Stepping into the ice and snow and barely slipping or not slipping at all. I really enjoyed my time on the trail, it was a beautiful day – very peaceful. When I reached the summit I spoke to a gentleman who took my picture for me. We got chatting and turned out he knew my dad and grandfather – small world! I got some more summit pictures and headed back down the Brook trail. When I finished the hike, I was proud of myself. Not only was it my first hike in the winter, but it was my first solo hike!
